Drawing Like DaVinci!
Instructor: Sharon Gibson
9-12 noon $90
This class will teach young artists how to develop their skills as artists through pencil. They will learn techniques to help them understand how to draw from photographs or life and will receive information about the elements and principles of art and design. Students may use images of flowers, people, animals, cars, and even places. Students will also be shown works of historical and contemporary artists to help them further understand and develop their own skills and voice in their work. Students will also be given snacks in the middle of class for a small break. Please contact teacher about food allergies.
Grades 4-8 Clay Castles
Instructor: Angelika Linsky
9-12 noon $120
Students will learn fun and interesting techniques to get them started in the polymer clay field. They will be given instruction on how to build their very own castle from the ground up. Students will invent their own colors and shaping the clay into their dream castle, from an under the sea temple to a dragons lair, the sky is the limit!

This is an introduction to comic book making! Students will learn about the process of creating their own comics. Throughout the class they will learn about writing, drawing, and understanding the storytelling needed for a comic. The teacher will bring in examples of comics for the class and also printed notes they can take home. Students will work hard in this class but will have lots of fun! Students will have a break in the middle of class and will receive snacks. Please contact teacher about food allergies.

This class will provide an exciting experience that will include surface design, weaving, and sewing. Students will have the opportunity to practice self-expression as they design and create their own unique WEARABLE fashion line! On Friday, students will host a FASHION SHOW for parents and friends.

Imagine creating your own medieval fantasy, whether it’s a desert fortress, Garden of Eden or castle in the sky! Students will be asked to use their imagination in creating every detail from dragons and knights to maidens and fields of flowers.

They will also learn about color theory during this class and the history of painters that can help them express their own ideas about paintings. Exploring Painting Techniques

Students will really get to use their imaginations as we explore a variety of painting techniques using traditional and unusual tools to paint with (paintbrushes, sponges, toy car wheels, squirt guns, sticks, etc.). Students will enjoy experimenting and creating original artworks in a fun and safe environment.
Grades 3-6 Beginning Drawing

Students learn the beginning steps of drawing & art history. They will study the magic of Disney’s animation and learn to see values and texture. Material list provided upon registration.
Grades 4-8 Recycled Jewelry

Students will be taking everyday knick-knacks and odds n ends (teacher will provide) and turning those things into beautiful and unique looking jewelry. $20 material fee due at time of registration.

Intro to Drawing

This class will teach students how to create drawings through graphite. They will learn techniques to understand how to draw from photograph or from life including gridding, proportion, perspective, gesture, anatomy, full value scale, and texture. Through advancing these skills, the students will be able to use photographs or objects of their choice from which to create their own artwork. Students may use images of flowers, people, animals, cars, and even places. Students will also be shown works of historical and contemporary artists to help them further understand and develop their own skills and voice in their work.
Intro to Painting

This class will teach students techniques of painting in the media of their choice: watercolor, acrylic, or oil. They may learn techniques from either personal objects or from photographs of their choice. They will receive training on different ways of creating work from life or photograph depending on their own personal technique or style. Students may choose which subjects to paint and they will be shown historical and contemporary painters that are similar to their style or interest.
Drawing From Life

This class will be dedicated to drawing objects, people, and animals from life. We will meet and discuss basic drawing techniques and styles. We will then move around the Arts Center and downtown Edwardsville to different locations to draw as a class from observation in real life. We will utilize the downtown atmosphere and summer weather to do plain air drawing, as well as drawings in local establishments, such as Sacred Grounds, the library, etc. This class will help you to “see” like an artist and to document life around you in a sketchbook. Mixed Media Painting
Instructor: Emily Wehling
Wednesdays 7-9 pm $90

This class will use acrylic paints and mediums to create mixed media paintings. In class, students will create several small paintings and one larger, more thoughtful painting using collage and mixed media techniques. We will work in a step-by-step process that makes this class great for beginners or experienced painters. An emphasis will be placed upon painting portraits of people or pets. Magazine images, photos, fabric, papers, and small objects will be used to create one of-a-kind paintings. A focus will be placed upon color, texture, and composition. Modern and Contemporary artists will be looked at for inspiration. |
