Kid’s Camp at Liberty Middle School

ART AND CHILDREN’S LITERATURE
Pre-school
Instructor: Amber Davidson

Children’s Literature will be the springboard for creative art-making and activities. Campers will explore various media and participate in games and activities that stimulate learning and creativity. $75


TEXTURE IS ROUGH
Grades K-2
Instructor: Katie McGovern

Campers will learn how texture can be incorporated in art through 2D and 3D methods. They will construct compositions using textured materials at the beginning of the week. They will then focus on creating works by implementing line and pattern into their later artworks with various materials. $75


INTRODUCTION TO ART & DESIGN
Grades 3-5
Instructor: Brie Rozycki

Art 101The camper will learn the basic elements & principles of design: line, shapes, space, value, colors, balance, rhythm, and texture. They will learn to use lines, shapes and space to create design compositions. Their designs will incorporate balance and rhythm while values, colors and texture will highlight primary areas. $75


HARRY POTTER
Grades 3-8
Instructor: Angelinka Linksy

This class is to give campers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to gain entrance into the Wizarding World as they become Hogwart's campers. They will make house badges representing their house, make their very own one of a kind magic wand, will build and design a racing broom, play a modified form of Quidditch, and participate in an experience like no other completly tailored towards Hogwarts experiences from the Harry Potter series. $75


KNITTING NANCY
Grades 3-8
Instructor: Katie Dile

Knitting NancyThe camper will learn an easy way to knit a tube, using a “Knitting Nancy” which has four prongs that we knit around and around. They will be knitting and making either a place mat or a rug – how long of a tube can you make ? $75


GARGOYLES, GNOMES AND GORILLAS
Grades 5-8
Instructor: Herschel Prater

Did you ever want to sculpt a two-legged creature, but didn’t know where to begin? In this class the campers will begin with a rough sketch, drawn to scale then continue through the creation of a wire armature. The “creature sculpture” will be completed with the addition of joint placement, body masses, and a papier-mâché skin. Painting and skin “treatments’ will complete the project. $75


PAINTING TECHNIQUES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL
Grades 6-8
Instructor: Sharon Gibson

Painting TechniquesThe campers will learn techniques of painting in the media of their choice: watercolor or acrylic. They will receive training on different ways of creating work from life or photograph depending on their own personal technique or style. Campers may choose which subjects to paint and they will be shown historical and contemporary painters that are similar to their style or interest. $75

EXPLORING COLOR THROUGH ART
Pre-School

Campers will play, sing, dance and create as they learn about color! They will use various media such as paint, crayons, colored papers, and more! Campers will discover how artists have used color and have opportunities to explore color themselves. $75


MY FAVORITE COLOR IS JEWELRY
Grades K-2

Campers will take part in a jewelry making frenzy in this class. Chunky beaded wire rings, bottle cap bracelets and brooches are at the top of the list. If your camper loves to accessorize, this is the class for them! $75


ANIMAL DRAWINGS
Grades 3-5
Instructor: Sharon Gibson

This class was created to study animals and find ways to create artwork about them through study of values, perspective, line drawings, and texture. Campers will also receive teaching on basic skeletal and muscular anatomy of the animals and study prints of artwork from old master's and contemporary artists (such as Durer, Audubon, etc...). $75

CREATING WITH PLASTIC CANVAS

Plastic CanvasThe camper will learn how to stitch on plastic canvas. They will be making a book mark (just in time for their summer reading), a mug rug, and a keepsake picture frame for their favorite picture. $75



INVESTIGATE WORLD CULTURES
Grades 4-8
Instructor: Angelinka Linksy

This class is designed to take the camper all over the world with a variety of fun and exciting arts and crafts that pull many wonderful aspects from the cultures that created them. Campers will enjoy a wide range of crafts from Japanese origami to Tibetan sand art. Not only will campers partake in such arts and crafts they will also enjoy the fine dining of such cultures during class time. Featured cultures include Spanish, Japanese, Tibetan/Indian, Irish, and Italian. $75


FANTASTIC FANCIFUL FORMS
Grades 5-8
Instructor: Herschel Prater

By cutting, scoring, gluing, taping and assembling straight-edged pieces of cardboard, campers will create 3-D letters, geometric forms, and/or giant angular sculptured masks. Final assembly work will include a papier-mâché skin and painted details. $75

Grades 6-8

OUTTA MY MIND
Grades 3-5

Outta My MindDon't go out of your mind this summer, find out what's in yours! In this class, each camper will be encouraged to unleash their most creative thoughts through a variety of both 2-D and 3-D projects. A variety of mediums will be explored in conjunction with techniques used by famous artists like M.C. Escher, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, etc. This class will also combine the use of tossed and found objects and engage in discussions of the importance of the artist on and in the environment. "Outta Your Mind" Will Be Outta This World! $75


RECYCLED WEARABLES
Grades 3-8
Instructor: Angelinka Linksy

Ever wanted to do something with that collection of soda tabs, or old bobby pins and clock pieces? With this class campers will learn how to turn those random little things into fun and playful jewelry, from key chains to bracelets to necklaces. Nothing in your junk drawer is safe after this class is over. They will be able to take those left over safety pins and missing puzzles pieces and give them a new look with a chainmaille flair! $75


SEWING WITH FELT
Grades 3-8
Instructor: Katie Dile

sewing with feltThe camper will make a felt purse to hold just those special essentials. They will also make a tissue holder, a pencil holder and a needle holder. They will be learning some simple embroidery stitches to embellish their accessories.

CREATING WITH POLYMER CLAY

Polymer ClayThe campers will get a feel for polymer clay and make several fun and unique items such as pencil top erasers, decorative cane and beads, an ink pen, a lidded box, and then an item of their choice. They may choose from decorative beads, key rings, fan pull or zipper pull. LET’S JUST HAVE FUN!!!! Material fee of $20 due on first day of class. $75


ALL ABOUT YOU
Grades 5-8

The camper will be doing a sculpture aspect of a project that is all about themselves! They will be making large letters, which will be their initials, and painting them with colors that they choose... maybe their favorite color, or they can design it with things they like to do for fun! $75


PORTRAIT DRAWINGS
Grades 6-8

This class is designed to teach the techniques of drawing people. Campers will start with a study of the elements and design of art. Campers will be given advice on techniques of drawing facial structures, anatomy and how each face is unique using gesture drawings, and other techniques to help them create their own personal work. $75


Maskes Around the WorldMASKS AROUND THE WORLD
Grades 6-8

Campers sail the seven seas in search of inspiration from masks of many cultures to create their own unique, wearable pieces of art. Materials include paper, raffia, foil, found objects, yarn, beads, and paint. $75

EXPLORING SHAPES AND PATTERNS THROUGH ART

Campers will take part is various activities, games, and art-making as they learn more about shapes and patterns. We will look at shapes and pattern in master’s works and create our own works of art! Campers will have the opportunity to work with a variety of media. $75


MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY
Grades K-2
Instructor: Katie McGovern

Campers will be creating 2D and 3D works of art that invent new ways of transportation. The first lesson will consist of drawing their new vehicle and then constructing it out of various materials. The last lesson will have your child creating an "eco-friendly" vehicle out of found objects to recycle. These are great projects for children with wild imaginations. $75

Fun With PaintFUN WITH PAINT

Campers will splatter, drip, and roll their way through traditional subject matter such as still-life, landscape and portrait using exciting painting methods and materials such as paste paint collage, textured watercolor, impasto, and fresco secco. Paint-friendly clothing is a must. $75


CLAY CASTLES
Grades 3-8
Instructor: Angelinka Linksy

Kids will learn fun and interesting techniques to get them started in the polymer clay field. Campers will be given instruction on how to build a mini castle of enormous detail. Imagine creating your own medieval fantasy, whether its a desert fortress, Garden of Eden, and or castle high in the sky. Kids will be asked to use their imagination in creating every detail from dragons and knights to princess and fields of flowers. Material fee of $20 due on first day of class. $75


WEAVE ME A BAG
Grades 3-8
Instructor: Katie Dile

woven bagThe camper will weave a small bag (purse) using a homemade loom and yarn. This bag can be made any size to fit an IPOD, a cell phone, or larger. They will also be lining the bag. $75



COMIC BOOTCAMP
Grades 5-8
Instructor: Sharon Gibson

The camper will create their own personal story lines and characters in their own personal style of comic or illustration. Campers will receive lessons on anatomy, perspective, and techniques of comic design. However, it is not only about the artwork, but comics are creative writing as well. Campers will receive training on how to create story lines, characters, humor, and also will be encourage to take notes of their favorite movies or TV shows, or comics. Comics can range from having 10 images and text on each page to even a short piece of writing/or poetry with a few drawings in each chapter, it is up to the campers. This class will also receive information on the history of comics and literature, which may help them understand they ways it can influence their own personal story. It is required to take time outside of class to finish these projects, comic work can be a slow process, but it is a great learning experience. $75

Discover the ArtistAll artists, ANY age are welcome to come paint a dishwasher/microwave safe mug, bowl, or plate. Yes your toddlers and infants are welcome! Enjoy a unique experience with the whole family. Design a keepsake with your child’s foot or handprint. There are endless possibilities. Older children may scribble a masterpiece. Discover your family artist! Two or three items may be completed during the time if desired. Don’t forget the camera to capture the special moment. PAINTING CLASSES

ACRYLIC LANDSCAPES
Grades 9-Adults

landscapesParticipants will learn to create beautiful landscapes with acrylic paint! They will learn color theory and the development of color mixing, along with basic painting techniques necessary to design and paint a landscape. Group exercises along with independent projects will allow participants to leave the class with landscape paintings to be enjoyed. Participants will have the option of bringing in a landscape picture of their choice to paint, or they may select one available from the instructor. Participants of all levels are welcomed to join the class and work at their own pace and comfort level.

ACRYLIC PAINTING

Participants will study and experiment with techniques of acrylic paints. This includes understanding acrylic's temperament and also using additives and other supplies to alter its temperament to what the artist needs. The class will begin with experiments on understanding the paint and then will begin their own projects, such as working on human figures, animals, landscapes, etc. They will also receive training on how to draw perspective, values, understanding color temperatures, and other principles of design. Participants will receive handouts to help with their home projects, which will include prints of artist's work that will help with the participants' projects.

Tips, Tricks, Tutorials, & Techniques! In this class, participants will be exploring the use of watercolors along with pen & ink as a vehicle to create an illustrated image. Both the beginner and advanced participant will benefit from tips, techniques and the secret behind technical skills that will give your paintings a polished professional look. Drawing skills aren't even necessary....just a paintbrush and a willingness to try!

COLLAGE/MIXED MEDIA PAINTING

mixed media paintingThis class will use acrylic paints and mediums to create mixed media paintings. In the class, everyone will create several small paintings and one larger more thoughtful painting using collage and mixed media techniques. A variety of techniques will be explored and used, and there will be a lot of freedom in order to incorporate imagery that is interesting and important to each artist. Magazine images, photos, fabric, papers and small objects will be used to create “one of a kind” paintings. A focus will be placed upon color, texture and composition. Modern and Contemporary artists will be looked at for inspiration.

MANGA-A-COMIC MARATHON
Grades 9 -Adult
Instructor: Sharon Gibson

Participants will receive training on how to create comic books or Manga illustrations. The participants will receive personal training to their own needs and desires for this class. They will receive training in concepts of design, perspective, line drawings, values, etc. in order to help them draw their ideas into a reality. They will also be encouraged to analyze their favorite TV shows, books, or movies to figure out why they are interested in these characters or story lines and how it can be used to their own personal works. This class will require outside time to finish projects, since comics can be very time consuming.

Advanced DrawingParticipants will learn how to develop their skills as artists through graphite or charcoal. They will learn collegiate techniques to understand how to draw from photograph or from life including gridding, proportion, perspective, gesture, anatomy, full value scale, and texture. Through advancing these skills, the participants will be able to use photographs or objects of their choice from which to create their own artwork. Participants may use images of objects, people, landscapes, or animals. Participants will also be shown works of historical and contemporary artists to help them further understand and develop their own skills and voice in their work.

BOOKBINDING FOR BEGINNERS

FIGURES IN CLOTH

Cloth Figures Participants will learn to create dynamic, expressive, sculptural cloth figures using traditional techniques. They will learn pattern making, body forms, needle-sculpting, hands, and joints. All levels of expertise are welcome. Participants should come prepared with ideas, sketches, questions, and an open mind.

SWIRL BUCKET BASKET
Grades 9 – Adult
Instuctor: Yvette Booker

With colored reed, the participant will learn how to weave a round basket that is done with a twill weave that gives a “swirl” appearance. The basket will be completed with a fancy ledge that will accommodate a custom cut wooden lid. This basket will be a striking addition to anyone’s décor. Baskets will be completed with a stain finish. Color choice of black or brown upon registration.

Material fee of $50 due on first day of class. $35

COLLECTOR BASKET
Grades 9 – Adult

Collector BasketParticipants will learn how to weave a large rectangular basket (10 inches wide and 16 inches long) that sports large wooden ball feet and wrapped handles. A board is permanently attached to the bottom for strength and support to ccommodate heavy loads such as newspapers and magazins. Several color
choices are available. Baskets will be completed with a stain finish.

SCULPTURE CLASSES

CLAY PORTRAITS
Grades 9 – Adult
Instructor: Snail Scott

Participants will create a life size, three dimensional portrait bust in clay, which will be fired to be permanent. No prior clay experience is necessary. Plan to bring several photos of your subject to class (front and side view, and additional angles would be helpful). Portraits of imaginary people are also an option! $85

FOUND OBJECT SCULPTURE

found item sculptureDo you find yourself drawn to different objects? If so, this class is for you! This class will allow you to make art out of different interesting objects old or new. These objects can be from collections, found, or bought. We will look at different assemblage artists for inspiration, and I will help guide you in building a creative and personal sculpture. Many different materials will be used such as wood, nails, paint, metal wire and glue. Objects that could make interesting compositions include toys, jewelry, keys, photos, pins, coins, etc.

GLASS CLASSES

LAMPWORK BEADS
Grades 8 –Adult
Instructor: Larry Hesterberg

In this class the participant will be making beads using a torch to melt and shape the glass. Every thing is furnished; tools, torch, mandrels and glass. You will be taught the basics of making a bead and about striking and reduction of glass.

CHAINMAILLE 101-BYZANTINE BRACELET
Grades 9–Adult

ChainmailleParticipants will learn the basic techniques needed to create chainmaille jewelry. The kit includes all rings needed in copper with a handmade copper clasp. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers.

JAPANANESE LACE BRACELET
Grades 9 – Adult
Instructor: Kate Tegtmeier

An intermediate class, but well worth the time and effort for this lovely piece in copper. Also referred to as a Japanese 12-2, this pattern is very versatile and structural and can be easily combined with other metals for different effects. This is also the basic weave for the popular Opera Earrings. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers – a handmade copper clasp is included.

BYZANTINE ROSE BRACELET
Grades 9-Adult
Instructor: Kate Tegtmeier

Participants will learn a delicate and airy design that incorporates the classic Byzantine weave with “rosettes” of copper. Kit includes copper rings and a handmade copper clasp. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers.

VERTEBRAE OR KING’S SCALE BRACELET
Grades 9– Adult
Instructor: Kate Tegtmeier

This weave has many names but its distinctive nesting pattern will always attract attention. The participant will learn a dense weave that lays flat against the wrist and can be easily combined with other metals to create different looks – from classic to fun. Kit includes copper rings and a handmade copper clasp. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers.

Participants will learn a substantial weave that can be feminine or masculine depending on the wire gauge used (we will be using medium size rings). The kit includes copper rings and a handmade copper clasp. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers.

STERLING SILVER OPERA EARRINGS
Grades 9 – Adult
Instructor: Kate Tegtmeier

Participants will create elegant chandelier earrings that are appropriate for the opera and fun enough for any party. Sterling silver rings are included in the kit as well as headpins and earring wires. You provide the Swarovski crystals (10-4 mm or whatever you prefer) and a pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers. If you want them to look just like the class sample, you will also need 10 small silver beads to use with the headpins. Pre-requisite: Chainmaille 101 – Byzantine or Japanese Lace.

STERLING SILVER ROMANOV EARRINGS
Grades 9 – Adult
Instructor: Kate Tegtmeier

The participant will create lovely focal point earrings that have a substantial amount of Sterling Silver with an 8mm focal bead and a 3mm bead for the drop. Kit includes sterling silver rings, ear wires and head pins. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers and 2 focal beads and 2 small beads for the drop. Pre-requisite: Chainmaille 101 – Byzantine Bracelet.

STERLING SILVER SHAGGY LOOP EARRINGS
Grades 9 – Adult
Instructor: Kate Tegtmeier

This class is an introductory class to chainmaille that is versatile for designers and always attracts attention. Brilliantly shiny Sterling silver rings cascade from a central 1-1 chain. This is a fun class that should work up quickly. Sterling silver rings and ear wires are included in the kit. You will need to bring your own pair of smooth jaw, chain nose pliers.
