New Paintings IL + MO brings together the work of seven painters working in Illinois and Missouri. The exhibition features the work of Brandon Anschultz, Amy Bautz, Jerald Ieans, Chris Kahler, Gary Passanise, Rosalyn Schwartz and Eric Spehn. This collection of work allows viewers to appreciate and compare the various styles, techniques and intentions of each artist and to discover the work of contemporary artists living and working in the region. The paintings in the show range from the abstract nonrepresentational minimalism of Spehn and Anschultz to the biomorphic forms of Ieans and Kahler to the symbolic and allegorical exploration of Bautz, Passanise, and Schwartz. The work reflects current trends in image making and exploration in the discipline of painting and illustrates the medium?s diverse possibilities and contemporary adaptations.
