Joan Wentz - Director

Joan Wentz is a retired Assistant Professor of Nursing, earning her BSN from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, her Master’s degree in nursing from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and her Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Jewish Hospital of Nursing. While teaching nursing at Barnes-Jewish College she was the recipient of the Missouri 2001 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Ruth C. Franc Faculty Excellence Award in 2001 and 1996. She served as an Item-writer for: (1) the first pain management national nursing certification exam offered by the American Nursing Credentialing Center in October 2005, and (2) the National State Board of Nursing Registered Nurse Examinations for the years 1997, 1996, 1993 and 1992.

Joan retired from the United States Navy Reserve at the rank of Captain in 2006. She served in the first Persian Gulf War in 1991, mobilized to Bahrain. She is active in the Edwardsville community volunteering at the Watershed Nature Center and Habitat for Humanity Edwardsville Chapter. Her husband, Al, is a native of Edwardsville. Al sponsors a number of scholarships at the Edwardsville High School and SIUE. Together they host charity dinners for various local organizations, including the Edwardsville Arts Center. They travel extensively and have a love of the arts.
